| HEATED DOG BED
Frequently Asked Questions Q: I just received my
new bed and even after having it on for several minutes, it
doesn't feel warm. Is my bed working properly?
The gentle heating of the Therabed is somewhat hard to
detect. If you have the bed plugged in and you cannot tell
if it is working, place a pillow or other similar item on
the bed for a few minutes, then feel the bed. You should be
able to feel heat now. However, being more sensitive, your
pet will feel the heat even if you cannot!
Q: Is this bed only for dogs with bone or joint
problems?
These beds are ideal for dogs and cats of all ages. Younger
pets will benefit from the stress reducing benefits of heat.
Heat relaxes muscles which can lead to a good night's sleep
and relief from a stressful day.
Q: Why is heat so important to pets?
Physiology suggest that pets may derive many of the same
benefits from heat as humans, including greater comfort,
reduced stress and relief from chronic pain caused by
injury, surgery or illness. Osteoarthritis is the #1 cause
of pain in dogs and affects 20 percent of dogs over a year
old. This condition can affect both the quality and length
of life.
Q: Just how prevalent are bone or joint problems?
They are actually quite common among pets. An estimated 10
million dogs in the United States have been diagnosed with
arthritis, and 31 percent of dog owners say that bone and
joint problems are an issue for their pets. Actual cases may
be higher since many pet owners aren't aware of the
symptoms.
Q: What are the signs of Osteoarthritis in dogs?
Symptoms vary, but common signs include: a reluctance to
walk, run, climb stairs, jump or play; difficulty in rising
from rest; and lameness, stiffness or decreased mobility.
Heat therapy can help relieve pain, relax muscles and
improve overall circulation in your pet.
Q: Will the Bed burn my pet?
No. There are no hot spots on these beds. They are designed
so heat is evenly distributed throughout the bed.
Q: Will my pet overheat?
No. Place your hand on the surface of the bed and it will
feel only mildly warm (roughly 85° Fahrenheit). The Pet
Sense Thermal Control limits the heat to keep your pet's
body temperature in its normal range (101° Fahrenheit for
dogs).
Q: What if my pet chews on the electrical cord?
These beds utilize a low voltage (12 volt DC) system that,
when used properly, will not harm your pet.
Q: What if my pet chews on the cover?
The beds are made with durable, high-quality ultra-suede
covers, it is possible that a pet could chew through the
fabric cover and into the foam, but neither would put the
animal at risk. Our product testing, however, suggests that
pets are smart enough to enjoy the warmth and comfort of our
products and not destroy them.
Q: Do I always have to use it with heat?
The heat feature can be turned on or off at any time based
on your pet's needs. The bed offers comfort and therapy with
or without the heat.
Q: What happens if the product gets wet?
The fabric covers are moisture and stain resistant. They are
also easy to clean, removable and machine-washable.
Q: Can't I just use a human heated blanket for my pet?
Human heated blankets are absolutely not recommended for use
with pets. Their temperatures are much too high for a pet
and can raise your pet's core temperature to dangerous
levels and/or cause burns. Pet beds are specifically
designed to maintain your pet's ideal internal temperature,
even when used for hours at a time.
Q: How Do I Know If My Bed Is At the Right
Temperature?
The beds use sophisticated internal controls to help the bed
reach and maintain the optimal temperature that provides
maximum pain relief and comfort. This feature makes
usability for the pet owner easy--simply plug it in and
leave it!
